Anyone at home?

I’ve just read an article about the process of abandon of Lisbon’s city centre. That’s the scenario I see everyday: the decadency of the historical centre.

I wonder why this phenomena is happening. Together with all the reasons the text shows us, what I see is that not many people are interested in living there. And that includes young people.
Yes, the rents are quite expensive. As well as restoring. But most of Lisbon’s inhabitants wouldn´t renounce the facilities of the new districts, such as having their cars, their garage, the lift etc. Combine all that with the decadence of the traditional street commerce – portuguese love their shoppings centres -, and the tourism invasion.

Any one at home?
